3 Ways to Save Money This Winter

3 Ways To Save Money This Winter

Winter is a season that can be a strain on your resources, and wallet. At Tremendous Maid we can provide you with a beautiful, clean home but unfortunately we can’t change your heating bill!

A clean home is a wonderful thing to come home to after a long day at work, but a clean home AND and energy efficient one is just so much better!

From December through March homes in Massachusetts see a huge increase in heating and electricity bills from the cold weather and snowfall.

Taking a few steps to make your home more energy efficient can save you a lot of money in the long run on bills you will always have to pay and probably have budgeted already. Put your money to better use by taking some time out to make sure your home is as energy efficient as possible! Here are three ways you can do that this winter without spending a ton of money!

1. Insulation and Gaps: The easiest way to save energy is to insulate your home properly.   Many homes in the Massachusetts area already have some kind of insulation installed in walls and attics but it doesn’t hurt to check to make sure it is effective. Check your attic and walls to make sure your insulation is still effective. If you don’t have any consider installing some before it gets too cold. While there are many materials that are used one of the most common and effective is fiberglass insulation. In addition to home insulation investigate the gaps surrounding windows, doors, and even electrical outlets as those are places that most commonly let cold air in during the winter. Some simple sealant can really make a difference in your home this winter.

2. Thermostat Upgrade: Another way to keep your heating bill from becoming a burden is to install a programmable thermostat. You can program your thermostat to drop to a lower temperature when you are out of the house or when you go to bed so you aren’t spending money to heat a home that no one is utilizing. You will see the difference immediately in your bill!

3. Upgrade Old Doors and Windows: A larger step you can take, that will greatly reduce energy costs, is to install energy efficient doors and windows in your home. The biggest cause of heating loss in a home is old windows and poorly installed doors. Your heating system has to work overtime to regulate the heat when old windows are letting the heat out and bringing cold air in. Though it can be expensive to re-do all of the windows in your home many of the window installations now are extremely durable and will be an investment for many years, saving you more money in the long run that you could have imagined.
